Schenectady 27th Division World War I Memorial
Over 400,000 New Yorkers answered the call during WWI, the largest mobilization from any state. The 27th Division lost its first hero in combat 363 days after mobilization. This marked the start of a painful toll - 1,791 brave soldiers sacrificed their lives, and 9,427 returned home wounded.
